Tennessee Hope Scholarship 2023: All the Information You Need

Tennessee Hope Scholarship was established to provide an opportunity for students in the state of Tennessee to attend technical colleges and universities. 

 

The program provides students with grants, scholarships, and tuition waivers to help them make their educational dreams come true, regardless of income or resources. 

 

The Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship (TELS) Program funds the HOPE scholarship.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must meet certain requirements established by the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC).

Tennessee Hope Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

 

  • Students must be Tennessee residents for at least one year as of September 1st of the year entering college.
  • Enroll in college within 16 months of graduating from high school.
  • Graduation from a Tennessee-accredited high school (special provisions apply to home school students).
  • Make an ACT score of 21 or higher, or an SAT score of 980 or higher, OR have a 3.0 or higher unweighted high school GPA.
  • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and send the results to their University. 
  • To meet lottery requirements, the FAFSA should be completed before March 1 but no later than September 1.
  • HOPE Aspire students must meet all of the HOPE Scholarship criteria as well as have an adjusted gross income of $36,000 or less.
  • HOPE Merit students must meet all HOPE Scholarship criteria, including a 29 on the ACT and a 3.75 final unweighted GPA.

 

How do I apply?

 

To apply for Tennessee’s Hope Scholarship, you’ll need to fill out a FAFSA form and graduate from a public high school in Tennessee. Each year, the FAFSA becomes available to fill out on October 1st and can be filled out at www.studentaid.gov  

 

When is the deadline?

The Tennessee Hope Scholarship 2023 application is available now. The deadline for submitting your completed application is September 1 for students beginning in the fall semester.

 

February 1 for students beginning in the spring and summer semesters. Applications will not be considered if they are submitted after this date.

 

How much is the award?

The scholarship is worth between $300 to $2,850 and can be renewed for up to four years.

HOPE Scholarship GPA Requirements for Continuation

 

Your HOPE GPA is calculated differently than your institutional GPA for HOPE Scholarship purposes. 

 

Your HOPE GPA includes all credits earned after graduating from high school, including developmental and repeated courses.

They do not include any credits earned before graduating from high school. Dual enrollment courses, for example, are not counted in your HOPE GPA.

Q; Is it possible to skip a semester and still be eligible for the HOPE Scholarship when I return?

A; If a student withdraws from the University after the add/drop period specified on the academic calendar, he or she will be ineligible for HOPE in the following semesters. If extenuating circumstances exist, the student must go through the appeals process.

 

Q; Will my HOPE Scholarship be forfeited if I take a leave of absence?
