Each year, the Ambassadors for Community Health – Auxiliary at St. David’s Medical Center (A4CH) awards the community ambassador St Davids Scholarship to students pursuing degrees in fields related to the delivery of healthcare services, either directly or indirectly. 

 

A4CH awarded approximately $153,000 in scholarships to 25 students for the 2021-2022 academic year. 

 

Scholarships are given to students who are currently enrolled or have been accepted into a Bachelor’s Level healthcare program or higher at the time of application and are attending a Texas college or university. 

 

The awards are per semester and are only available for the Fall and Spring semesters!

About Community Ambassador St Davids Scholarship

 

The A4CH scholarship will be awarded to a Huston-Tillotson University student enrolled in a pre-med or pre-health program who plans to apply to a bachelor’s degree program in healthcare or higher in Texas after graduation. 

 

Physical therapy (PT), physician assistant (PA), nursing (BSN or MSN), pharmacy (PharmD), and medicine are examples of bachelor’s level or higher healthcare programs in Texas (MD). 

 

Each year, only one prize is awarded, and it is divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.

Eligibility for the Community Ambassador St Davids Scholarship

 

The following are the eligibility requirements. Students are required to:

 

  • Have been accepted or are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s level or higher healthcare program in the state of Texas, such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or physical therapy
  • Attend school full-time or full-time equivalent as determined by your educational institution for the duration of the scholarship.
  • Show proof of US citizenship or permanent resident status; and 
  • Pass a background check
  • Be available for a phone interview with the Scholarship Committee on a specific date in April.
  • Not be a St. David’s Healthcare employee eligible for tuition reimbursement

 

Application Requirements for the St David’s Community Ambassador Scholarship

  • Essay
  • 2 recent letters of recommendation (LOR) or referral letters: Two completed references in a signature-sealed envelope (one copy with the application); see below: (Relatives, including extended family, and friends, may not provide references unless they are from a job, professional, or educational setting.)
  • The two references should come from different places; for example, one from an educational source, such as a professor or advisor, and the other from a member of the community, such as a volunteer coordinator or employer.
  • CV or resume: a current resume/CV detailing all volunteer and paid work in the field of health over the previous three (3) years; explain your experiences in detail, including how many hours you worked each week and how many hours you put in overall (for volunteer experience)
  • Academic transcript

 

Scholarship Duration

The application process will begin in December.

 

Application deadline

The application must be received by midnight on March 12, 2023.

A; No, this is an open application opportunity; however, current and former St. David’s Medical Center volunteers are given preference for their service.

 

Q; I work at St. David’s Medical Center; am I eligible to apply?

A; An employee who is not eligible for tuition reimbursement may apply for this scholarship program.

 

Q; Would a college student majoring in Neuroscience be eligible if they are pursuing a bachelor’s degree,

A; No, They will only accept applicants with a healthcare degree.

 

Q; Is it possible for me to be qualified for this scholarship if I am studying for a Masters or PhD in nursing?

Q; Yes, these are relevant degrees. Others with which you might be familiar include Bachelor of Science degrees and nursing diplomas. Master’s degrees in healthcare management and public health, for example, among many others.

 

Q; Is it necessary to send my official transcript in a sealed envelope?

A; No, please upload a copy to the location specified on the application.

 

Q; I’ve been out of school for a while; will a printed copy of my unofficial transcript from school suffice, or will I need to order an official transcript from the school and have it sent directly and separately to St David’s as part of my application?

A; No, an unofficial transcript will not suffice. Furthermore, for your application package to be considered complete, a copy of an official transcript must be submitted with the application materials.
