About Stuck at Prom Scholarship 

The Stuck at Prom Scholarship is a great opportunity for high school students to show off their creativity and engineering skills. Students must create and wear a prom outfit made entirely from Duck® Brand Duct Tape. The outfits must be original and unique, and they must be functional enough to be worn to prom.

The Stuck at Prom Scholarship is an annual competition for high school students in the United States and Canada. The scholarship is sponsored by Duck® Brand Duct Tape, and it provides a $10,000 scholarship to the winner in each of the Dress Category and Tux Category. 

In addition, there are eight runners-up in each category who each receive a $500 scholarship and a $100 Duck Brand prize pack.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Stuck at Prom Scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 14 years old
  • Be enrolled in high school or home school association (at the high-school level) during the current school year
  • Be a legal resident of the United States and the District of Columbia (excluding Maryland, Colorado, Vermont, Nebraska and North Dakota) or a legal resident of Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec)
  • Not have been a finalist in any previous Stuck at Prom contests

 

Requirements

In addition to these eligibility requirements, students must also submit a photo of their prom outfit made entirely from Duck® Brand Duct Tape, a 500-word essay describing the inspiration for their outfit and the challenges they faced in creating it, and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or other adult.

How to Apply

Eligible participants may enter the contest as one single individual only.

Each entrant must create and wear prom attire consisting of either a complete dress or a complete tuxedo and accessories made using Duck brand duct tape and/or Duck brand crafting tape. Other materials, in addition to Duck brand duct tape, may be used or incorporated into the design.

Entrants must submit at least one photo showing the entrant wearing Duck Tape Prom Attire. The location of the photograph is at the discretion of the entrant.

The Duck Tape Prom Attire must be an original creation. It may not have previously won any award or contest, or copy, incorporate, or be based on the work of a third party.

Any entry that does not meet the eligibility requirements is subject to disqualification at the discretion of the sponsor.

Assistance from family and/or friends is permitted in creating the prom attire. However, paid professionals cannot participate in any way.

Any entrant who is a minor must notify his/her parent/guardian, have the consent of his or her parent/guardian, and provide parent/guardian with the option to opt-out their entry from admission in the contest.

When a contest entry is received, the entrant will be notified via email. After a moderation period, the entrant will receive an email notification that the submission has been accepted or denied. Please do not call or email the sponsor until five (5) business days after submitting a contest entry.

Worth

The Stuck at Prom Scholarship is worth a total of $20,000. The winners in each category receive a $10,000 scholarship, and the eight runners-up in each category each receive a $500 scholarship.
