our Opportunity:

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is currently seeking a professional temporary part-time courier with superb customer service to be responsible for the pickup and delivery or specimens, supplies, and patient reports from APL sites and physicians’ offices. A clean 3 year driver’s abstract, valid within the last two months must be included with your application. This is a medical leave coverage temporary position.

Description:

Key Accountabilities: Picks up and delivers laboratory specimens and medical supplies from APL sites and physicians’ offices, in accordance with assigned courier route as dispatched or directed. Delivers laboratory reports to physician’s offices as required. Ensures prompt, safe and reliable and professional service to clients. Presenting a professional image both in appearance and personality. Operates APL vehicles in a safe manner adhering at all times to Alberta Safety and Traffic Laws. Resolves service issues and redirects situations to supervisor or designate as required. Maintains APL vehicles and worksite for safety and cleanliness. Completes vehicle mileage logs accurately and in a timely manner. Takes direction from and communicates effectively with Courier Dispatcher or designate. Alerts Courier Dispatcher to vehicle breakdowns and required vehicle maintenance and obtains direction on required action. Contributes to the on-going improved operation of the courier department by bringing forward suggestions for improvement to the supervisor or designate. Performs other related duties as required. Accepts the professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to patients, staff and the business of APL.

Required Qualifications:Minimum of Grade 12 education. A valid class 5, non-GDL, driver’s license, a driver’s abstract, completed within the last 2 months and satisfactory to APL and an absence of prior criminal code convictions for driving related offences. Ability to lift and/or carry 10-20 pounds on an occasional basis (25 to 50% of shift); and > 20 lbs on a seldom basis (up to 25% of the shift). Able to interact positively with external and internal clients. Able to deal with stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. Ability to take direction from and communicate effectively with Courier Dispatcher. Ability to solve problems independently. Ability to work independently in a team environment. Demonstrated exemplary customer service, communication and interpersonal relationship skills.

Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to drive in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:Recent courier experience. Good knowledge of Medicine Hat and Southern Alberta. Knowledge of TDG in relation to transport of bio hazardous materials. TDG training will be provided by Alberta Public Laboratories. Knowledge of WHMIS. Training will be provided by Alberta Public Laboratories.
