Ohio Autism Scholarship 2023: Everything You Need to Know

Ohio Autism Scholarship

Through the Ohio Autism Scholarship Program, autistic students in Ohio may earn vouchers worth up to $27,000 for private educational services, such as private school tuition.

For educational services, the state will pay a student’s guardian or parents up to $31,500 in FY2022 and $32,455 in FY2023 and thereafter.

To get this money, a child must participate in the program for the entire academic year. The parent may purchase transportation from a registered private provider that is authorized by the state to offer such transportation if transportation is mentioned on the IEP as a connected service and submit a claim for reimbursement through the Autism Scholarship Program.

Any expenses above the maximum allowed per year must be paid for by the parents.

Everything you need to know about the program, including its funding, eligibility requirements, and rules, is provided below.

About the Ohio Autism Scholarship

The Autism Scholarship Program (ASP) allows parents of autistic children who qualify for a scholarship to send their child to a special education program other than the one run by the child’s school district of residence to receive their education and the services outlined in the child’s individualized education program (IEP).

The Autism Scholarship program is open to any kid who has been diagnosed by their district as a child with autism and for whom the district has developed an individualized education plan (IEP).

The student must have a current, finalized IEP from the district of residence, and all parties, including the parent, must agree with the IEP.

When a kid reaches the age of three, he or she is eligible to apply for the program.

Benefits of the Scholarship

Here are some benefits of the Scholarship:

  • Provides financial assistance to families of children with autism for specialized education services.
  • Offers a wider range of education options for families, including private schools and specialized autism programs.

Students are eligible to use the voucher regardless of whether or not they were previously enrolled in public schools; however, students who were not previously enrolled in public schools are required to formally transfer into the public system for the purposes of their individualized education programs (IEPs).
